CPA-300x300Pedro Arrupe School, in the East of Lisbon, has ignatian teaching as the basis of its educational project. They maintain links with the other schools of the Society of Jesus.

From the beginning of the school in 2010, the Handmaids have collaborated in this project, above all from a pastoral aspect and in human and religious formation. Today the school has nearly 1400 pupils, from Kindergarten to A Level.

Colegio_PedroA_AnaMCCol_Pedro_Arrupe_ClaraLInspired by its patron, Pedro Arrupe, Superior General of the Society of Jesus between 1965 and 1983, the aim of the school has been to form students to have a universal outlook and to respect differences. Another pillar of the school is the importance of the sea as a space which symbolises the meeting of cultures – so important for the portuguese culture – as a place to develop sailing activities of sport and culture.

In this sense, the charisma of the Handmaids finds a very enriching space for collaboration. This allows them, among other things, to speak of Jesus, who gives Himself for us each day in this “bottomless sea” which, in the words of St. Raphaela, is the Eucharist.
